Explorer Scouts were introduced in the UK in 2001 and formally launched in February 2002 as the fifth section of The Scout Association for youth aged 14 to 18, replacing the former Venture Scout section. The program was designed to enhance leadership skills and community involvement among older youth, and it has evolved to include various awards and opportunities for volunteering.
Although Explorer Scouts form part of the District Team, there has been a longstanding partnership agreement between Rother Explorers and 1st Sheet Scout Group.
